1. What is the Bright House Networks Navigator? 

The Bright House Networks Navigator provides a faster and easier way to access all you want to see, whenever you want to see it. In the near future, the Navigator will also enable Bright House Networks to offer new interactive services such as games, polling, and integrated services. The Navigator has unique search features and superior navigation capabilities.

2. What does the Navigator do? 

The Navigator includes advanced digital navigator functionality including:

  • Access Menu - Provides viewers with a consolidation of all of your setting and viewing choices. The Access Menu gives you easy access, to On Demand choices and “what’s on now” program categories such as news, sports kids and more.
  • Enhanced Menu - Displays a pop-up of other channels closely associated (by genre or content) with the currently tuned channel, e.g. the extended HBO line-up when on any HBO channel.
  • Find Shows - Allows viewers to search for both broadcast and On Demand programs by category, by title, and by rating. New keyboard search capability allows even non-DVR digital customers to type program titles for direct access, without having to know the channel location

3. May I shrink the size of the banner that interferes with the news/stock price crawl? 

The size of the banner cannot be changed..

4. May I change the color scheme of the Bright House Networks Navigator? 

The color scheme may not be changed.

5. How do I find the Fast Forward (FF/SKIP) and Rewind (RR/JUMP BACK) on the progress bar 

To manipulate the progress bar, press the fast forward or reverse arrow buttons (next to the PLAY arrow button) on your remote. Additional presses of the FF/REW button will increase the FF/REW speed (denoted by one, two, or three arrow heads) until the maximum speed is reached.

6. How do I search for a show? 

  1. Press the B button on your remote to access FIND SHOWS
  2. Arrow left/right to highlight either TITLE, CATEGORY or RATING
  3. Arrow up/down to highlight your programming choice and press the SELECT button.
  4. A new menu may appear with other options displayed horizontally across the bottom and a list displayed vertically
  5. Press the SELECT button on your remote to view the desired programming

7. How do I find a specific show? 

  1. Press the B button on your remote twice to bring up an on-screen keyboard. 
  2. Spell the show name using the left, right, up and down arrows on your remote. The Bright House Networks Navigator only supports searches based upon the first word in the title of the program
    If the title begins with an article (a, an, or the), the second word is used for a title search.
    Press the SELECT button on your remote to choose a highlighted letter.
     
  3. When title appears in the left column, use the left arrow key to switch from the keyboard to the title list, use up/down arrows to highlight your program.
  4. Press the SELECT button on your remote to either view, record, record series or set reminder.

8. How many days of data are available in the Bright House Networks Navigator Program Guide? 

The Program Guide allows viewers to scroll up to 14 days in the future and two hours back from the current time, in 30-minute increments.

How long will a program display in the Recording Log?
All programs that have been recorded will remain in the Recording Log for 14 days. Deleted programs or programs that did not record will also be listed on the log for the same period. The Recording Log contains data about:

  • Programs that did not record due to a recording conflict.
  • Programs that did not record because there was no space available on the disk.
  • Programs that were recorded but deleted by the user.
  • Programs that were recorded and then deleted to make room for new recordings.

9. How can I access the amount of space left on my DVR? 

The Recording Log will let you know that the show failed to record due to lack of available space. You will then need to delete some shows to make space for new recordings.

10. How do I record my favorite series? 

  1. Using the remote control, select the series you’d like to record from the Bright House Networks Navigator.
  2. Highlight the program in the GUIDE and press SELECT. A list of options will appear.
  3. Scroll to Record Series and press Select.

11. How do I record programs on a specific channel for a pre-determined block of time? 

The Bright House Networks Navigator does not allow for recording by blocks of time. You must set the unit to record each show separately.

12. What are Alerts? 

Alerts are colors that denote the whether a program is recording or has been purchased. The alert will highlight the program selected for recording or purchase with a color prior to the start of shows with a REMINDER TIMER or are on the SCHEDULED RECORDING list. Icons for each alert display within the colored cells.

13. What do the different Alert colors signify? 

The Bright House Networks Navigator uses these colors to signify these alerts:

  • Orange: A Reminder Timer has been set for a specific program.
  • Red: A DVR recording has been scheduled.
  • Green: A specific event has already been purchased.

14. Where is the Recording Now icon in the Bright House Networks Navigator? 

The RECORDING NOW icon will be found in two places: the INFO BANNER for a currently recording program includes a recording icon to indicate that the recording is in progress and it will be listed in the RECORDED SHOWS section of the SHOW LIST menu. When a show is recording or scheduled to record, both the listing in the Guide in the Navigator and a recording light on the front of your DVR will turn red.

15. How do I adjust the recording start and stop times for a scheduled recording on Bright House Networks Navigator? 

  1. Press LIST button on the remote to access the SHOW LIST screen.
  2. Highlight and SELECT the show you want to change.
  3. Choose ADJUST START TIME or ADJUST END TIME.
  4. Choose the number of minutes before and after the show starts and ends and press SELECT.
  5. OR, go to the SCHEDULED RECORDINGS area (for changes to individual shows or episodes) or the SERIES MANAGER section (for changes that apply to the entire series) and then follow steps two (2) through four (4) above.

16. Do I have control over setting program recording priorities? 

If your Digital SmartBox model number on the front of the box does NOT end with the letter "C":
When conflicts exist between two series recordings, the series with the highest priority takes precedence. By default, series are prioritized in the order the recordings were originally scheduled. Users can change the series priority using the Series Manager tab, Set Priority option.

If your Digital SmartBox model number on the front of the box ends with the letter "C":
The DVR gives highest priority to the most current request made, which usually means that requests are filled as they are made. To make sure that a particular program records in the event of a tuner conflict, delete any old requests for that program and re-submit a request. This will make it your “most recent request” and make it the highest priority request, ensuring it is recorded first.

17. How do I verify my program will be recorded? 

  1. Press LIST button on the remote to access the SHOW LIST screen.
  2. Choose the SCHEDULED RECORDINGS list.
  3. Your choice will show up in red.

18. How do I know if there is a conflict? 

  1. Press LIST button on the remote to access the SHOW LIST screen.
  2. Choose the SCHEDULED RECORDINGS list.
  3. Your choice will be in blue with the the a symbol, MDN DVR Record Conflict Icon or ODN DVR Record Conflict Icon  indicating the show will not be recorded.
  4. SELECT the program and you will be given options to resolve the conflict.

19. How does the Bright House Networks Navigator resolve recording conflicts? 

If there is a conflict at the time a recording is scheduled, and you do not have chance to resolve the conflict before the programs begin, the Bright House Networks Navigator will make a decision to record a program based on the these priorities:

  1. Pay Per View event
  2. On Demand selection
  3. Any series or program scheduled in the same time slot.
A show that was scheduled but not recorded will display in the RECORDING LOG. A list of options may appear to allow you to resolve the conflict before the show airs.

20. How do I know my show is being recorded or has been purchased? 

When a show has been purchased or is recording or scheduled to record, the cell in Bright House Networks Navigator turns red. The program will also be found in the Scheduled Recordings listings in the Show List menu.

21. How do I cancel a Bright House Networks Navigator On Demand and/or Pay Per View program? 

You may cancel a purchase during a zero (0) to five (5) minute Cancellation Window, set by your local Bright House Networks office.

  • To cancel a PAY PER VIEW program, press the A button on the remote (the yellow triangle button), go to the PURCHASES screen to find and cancel the purchased event.
  • To cancel a MOVIE ON DEMAND (MoD), press the B button on the remote (the blue square button), then highlight and select the “Cancel this purchase” choice on screen.
For both On Demand and Pay Per View programs, the cancellation must occur within five minutes of the start of any non-Adult content program. There is no cancellation policy for Adult content programming.

22. How do I confirm the cancellation of an On Demand or Pay Per View program? 

When a show is recording or scheduled to record, the cell in Bright House Networks Navigator turns red. If that recording or purchase is canceled, the cell will return to the default (blue) color. In addition, the show will no longer be listed in the Scheduled Recordings area of the Show List menu.

23. What is Parental Control? 

Parental Control allows you to control the programs that can be viewed on your TV. This way, you can make sure your family doesn't watch anything you don't want them to. Before you can turn Parental Control on, you must set up your Parental Control blocking preferences. You may block programs in five (5) different ways:

  • By Channel
  • By Content
  • By Rating
  • By Time
  • By Title

24. Which Bright House Networks Navigator block option is more inclusive? 

No option is more inclusive than another. Rather, the blocking options are meant to be used in concert and as needed. You may use as many combinations of blocks as needed to control the programming reaching your home.

25. How do I determine if a channel, show, or time period is blocked? 

  1. Using the remote, go to the Navigator SETTINGS screen to check the status of blocked categories.
  2. Turn on the PARENTAL CONTROLS.
  3. Check that your choices are indeed designated as blocked. That is, they are highlighted and have a CLOSED LOCK next to the program title, the channel, the time slot, etc. Also, if you tune to a blocked channel, you will see a BLOCK SCREEN with instructions on how to disable all blocks, or how to disable blocks only while you watch the currently blocked program.
  4. Make any changes needed.
  5. Select SAVE/RETURN.

26. What will I see if a channel block is in effect? 

As mentioned above, you will see a CLOSED LOCK next to a program title, channel, content, time slot, etc. on a highlighted background. If there is no CLOSED LOCK icon next to the channel, content, program title, time slot, etc., it is likely that the PARENTAL CONTROLS are turned off.

27. Is there a list of the Blocked Channels and Blocked Ratings I have selected in the Blocking Settings option? 

There are no lists of blocked channels available at this time. This information is found in the GUIDE format only at this time. As mentioned above, you will be able to check upon the status of a program by entering PARENTAL CONTROLS section within the SETTINGS menu and checking for the CLOSED LOCK icon next to that which you wish to block or you may simply attempt to tune in to something you wish to check. If the program is blocked, a BLOCKED CHANNEL message will be displayed on the screen in place of the blocked channel or program.

28. Is my Purchase PIN the same as my Parental Control PIN? If I modify one does it change the other? 

The Purchase PIN and the Parental Control PIN are separate.

  1. The Purchase PIN is found under PURCHASES within the SETTINGS menu.
  2. The Parental Control PIN is found under PARENTAL CONTROLS within the SETTINGS menu.
  3. The default for both PINs is set by each local Time Warner Cable office (typically 0000). You will be prompted to create your own, personal PINs.

29. Will the Caller ID displayed on the TV be recorded if I am recording a program at that time? 

The Bright House Networks Navigator uses smart technology to prevent this.

30. Will my Caller ID on the TV interfere or affect the traditional Caller ID on my phone? 

Caller ID on the TV does not interfere with the traditional Caller ID.

31. Are all customers that subscribe to Bright House Networks Digital Phone eligible for the new on-screen Caller ID feature? 

Yes. However, to receive the new on-screen Caller ID feature, customers must subscribe to both Bright House Networks Digital Phone service and Bright House Networks Digital Cable service.

32. Will calls be logged to the Received Calls list if my Caller ID is turned off? 

Up to ten received calls will be logged to the Received Calls list, even if your Caller ID is turned off.

33. How can I make the Caller ID call alert display disappear off the TV screen?? 

You may disable the display of Caller ID alerts by using the QUICK SETTINGS portion of the SETTINGS menu. You may also use the following buttons on the remote to make the Caller ID alert leave the screen:

  • The A button or Menu (this brings up the Access Menu)
  • Exit
  • Guide
  • Info
  • Record
  • Settings List

Pressing any other buttons on the remote will not affect the Caller ID call alert.
