Choosing general settings

Navigator provides the General Settings menu to let you tailor Navigator to your needs. The figure to the right shows the General Settings menu.

The table shows all the options you can specify in the General Settings menu and gives a brief description of each option.






This general setting Lets you
Favorite channels Specify channels as favorites; you can tune to them with the FAV button
Sleep timer Activate the sleep timer so that Navigator turns off the Digital SmartBox automatically after the number of minutes you specify
VCR timer Specify channels, dates and times to be recorded (refer to Recording Programs)
Power-on timer Specify the channel, day(s), and time you want the Digital SmartBox to turn on automatically
Power-off timer Specify the day(s) and time you want the Digital SmartBox to turn off automatically
Reminder timer Specify for which channels, days, and times you want to set reminder timers
Power-on channel Specify what channel the Digital SmartBox tunes to automatically when you turn the Digital SmartBox on
PPV purchases Review or cancel PPV purchases
Purchase PIN Enable, disable, and change the PIN you use for purchasing PPV programs
Blocking Pin Enable, disable, and change the PIN you use for parental control
Blocked channels Specify the channels you want to block when parental control is activated
Blocked ratings Specify the program ratings you want to block when parental control is activated
Blocked time Specify the time periods you want to block when parental control is activated
Alert summary View or cancel current VCR, PPV, and reminder timers
Audio level Specify the Digital SmartBox's output volume level
Clock options Specify whether the Digital SmartBox LED displays time only, the current channel only, or time with the current channel number
Secondary audio Turn secondary audio programming (SAP) on or off
Language Specify the language in which you want to view Navigator information
AC outlet use Specify how to use the Digital SmartBox's AC outlet
VCR Commander Set up the VCR Commander by specifying your VCR model
Two Digital SmartBox setup Activate or deactivate Digital SmartBox mode, which allows you to use one Digital SmartBox for watching a channel and a second Digital SmartBox for recording another channel
Banner duration Specify how long the channel banner remains displayed when you change channels
Color scheme Select a color scheme for Navigator screens

To display the General Settings menu

  1. Press the SETTINGS button. This displays the Quick Settings menu. The figure below shows the SETTINGS button.

  2. Press the A button. The General Settings menu displays.

To choose general settings

  1. In the General Settings menu, press the up or down arrow button to highlight the general settings option you want to specify.
  2. Press the right arrow button. The settings for the selection appear in a column to the right.
  3. Press the up or down arrow button to select the setting you want to specify. For multiple columns, press the right arrow button to access the columns. For columns with numbers, you can press the number buttons on the remote to enter the numbers.

Getting help for general settings

To get help for general settings

  1. Press the up or down arrow button to highlight the item for which you want help.
  2. Press the INFO button. A message shows a description of the setting.
  3. To exit the help message, press the C button .

To exit the General Settings menu

  • Press the EXIT button. The General Settings menu disappears and you return to the channel you were watching.
